‘Therefore
let it be known to you brethren, that through this man (Jesus Christ) is
preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is
justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of
Moses’ (Acts 13:38-39).
The death of Jesus Christ on the cross
brought us forgiveness of all our sins. Our sins which once separated us from
God have been taken out of the way by the sacrifice of Jesus (Hebrews 9:26).
Because of His death, we are now reconciled to God (Romans 5:9-10). We all now
have legal right to eternal life. Our sins no longer prevent us from going to
God or Him form hearing us. ‘But,’ you may say, ‘Isaiah 59:1-2 says, ‘Behold,
the LORD’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save, nor His ear heavy that it
cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your
sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear’. What do you say
about that?’
That was true, but is no longer true.
Our sins no longer separate us from God. Jesus has taken away that barrier
through His death. God has forgiven all our sins-past, present and future. All
of them have been forgiven (Colossians 2:13). God no longer counts them against
us. 2 Corinthians 5:19 says… that God was in Christ reconciling the world to
Himself, not inputting their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the
word of reconciliation’. He no longer counts any man’s sins against them.
In fact, God will never condemn anyone
for their sins. Yes, no one will be damned for their sins. They shall only be
damned if they do not believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15; John
3:15-18,36 etc). Only those who believe are justified, that is declared
righteous.
‘How
is it possible that all our sins-past, present and future – have been
forgiven.?’ ‘But this Man (Jesus Christ), after He had offered one sacrifice
for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God ’(Hebrews 10:12).
The
sacrifice of Jesus was done once for all. And if it was done once, it means
that it had to cover all that it is supposed to cover – sins. If it never
covered all sins, then those whose sins are uncovered are not forgiven. The
Bible says that ‘without shedding of blood there is no remission (forgiveness
of sins)’ (Hebrews 9:22). Jesus shed His blood only once. If our future sins
were not forgiven, then we are doomed. He is not going to shed His blood again.
If that is the case, we all are unforgiven. Jesus died over two thousand years
ago. If future sins were not forgiven, none of our sins were taken care of. The
past sins will only be those committed before His death.
But thank God that the death of Jesus covered
all sins and reconciled us to God. God is no longer at war with us. The war is
over. God has sent to us all the message of reconciliation: ‘Your sins are
forgiven.’
